Adult Care Communities

Community-based centers, usually open during working hours, to help people who need supervision, social support, or assistance with daily activities.

Alzheimer's Care

Alzheimer's care or Memory care is for people in the early to late stages of Alzheimer's disease or dementia. (Also, uses the adult day care programs.)

Assisted Living

These communities are for people who need assistance with the daily living activities; bathing, dressing, taking medication, personal safety, laundry, meals, etc., but not 'round the clock, like nursing homes.

Congregate Care

A congregate care facility combines private living quarters with centralized dining services, shared living spaces, and access to social and recreational activities.

Continuing Care

CCRC offers multiple levels of care on one campus. Usually they start with independent living, assisted living, and nursing home care. Some include memory care (Alzheimer's Care) as well.

Convalescent Care

This type of home offers a place of residence for people who require constant nursing care while recovering form an illness, surgery or some temporary situation.

Health Care Communities

Community-based centers, usually open during working hours, to help people who need supervision, social support, or assistance with daily activities.

Home Health Services

These provide services ranging from shopping, meal preparation, companion and home assistance to maintenance, housekeeping and yard work. Medical and non-medical.

Residential care for people with special needs

Hospices

Hospice services allow a dying person to be comfortable during his or her last days or hours, and support the family of a dying person before, during, and after the person's death. Can be done in the home or in a hospice facility.

Independent Living

This is for seniors who are able to live independently but want social opportunities, security and access to services provided with minimal or no help with daily living activities.

Intermediate Care

A health care facility for individuals who are disabled, elderly, or non-acutely ill, usually providing less intensive care than that offered at a hospital or skilled nursing facility.

Nursing Homes

Also called Skilled Nursing: designed for people who need 'round the clock care and assistance with daily living activities. Can be permanent or short term.

Nursing Services

Services provided by licensed nursing personnel which include, but are not limited to, observation; promotion and maintenance of health; prevention of illness and disability; management of health care during acute and chronic phases of illness; guidance and counseling of individuals and families; and referral to physicians, other health care providers, and community resources when appropriate.

Personal Care Homes

A residential setting where a number of older people live and only need help with personal care only; washing, dressing and giving medication.

Residential Care Homes

A residential setting where a number of older people live and have access to onsite care services. Each home is registered for specific care needs. (dementia, terminal illness, etc.)

Rest Homes

A residence for people who require constant nursing care and have significant deficiencies with daily living activities, such as elderly and younger adults with physical disabilities.

Retirement Communities & Homes

A planned community for residents who have retired from an active working life. These can be apartments, neighborhoods, culde-sacs, or residences.

Veteran Homes, Services & Communities

An old soldiers' home is a military veteran's retirement home, nursing home, or hospital, or sometimes even an institution for the care of the widows and orphans of a nation's soldiers, sailors, airmen, marines, etc.
